Bible Reading Challenge: Weeks 4-6

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Psalms 12:6-7
I don't know about you, but I am so thankful that we have the pure word of GodGod could have just left us here on earth to fend for ourselves and to try to figure out the way to salvation on our own but He didn't....because He loves us!

During our Bible time this morning, I was talking to the children about how we cannot possibly obey the commands of the Lord if we do not know what they are. We cannot know what they are unless we spend time in His Word. So simple yet many Christians fail to take the time to read what God has to say!

This is one of the reasons I embarked on this 90 day, through the Bible challenge.  It occurred to me that I could not say for certain that I have ever read EVERY word in the precious Word of God.  One day, I will give an account to the Lord for what is contained in the pages of the Bible, yet I couldn't be confident that I had read them all.  That is shameful to say but even worse would have been to do nothing about it!

If you haven't yet started your journey through the Bible, may I encourage you to do so? What a way to start the new year!  If you hustle, you could make it through by January 1 (yes, you will have to play catch up with about five days but you CAN do it!)  Just commit your way to the Lord and take a step of faith.  I promise, the Lord will help you with this if you'll let Him!

I apologize for not posting the previous two weeks of updates, but we have been on vacation.  Wow, was that a challenge.  I read on the plane, I read in the hotel room....I read in the hotel room bathroom before the family got up! It took a monumental amount of creativity and desire to accomplish but I'm happy to report that I arrived home only 1/2 a day behind in my reading!  Thank you Jesus!

I wish I could tell you that I have had some deep revelation through all of this or that the windows of heaven have opened and miracles have taken place in my life.  I can't.  At times, I've felt like I'm I have been reading, just to read.  There are times when that is needful in order to complete the challenge.  It's ok.  This time through, I am reading to get through in 90 days...that is the challenge!

I can tell you this though, when you read large chunks of the Bible at one time, you understand more (or at least I do). Reading several chapters in the Old Testament that tie in with what I am also reading in the New Testament has been enlightening!    So, even in the fast pace of the reading schedule, I have learned so much more than I normally do in reading a chapter or two a day.  Incredible, isn't it?

In the past 42 days, I have read through the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts! It has been such a blessing!

If anyone is still with me, how are things going for you?  I would love to hear!  May God bless you as you seek His face!

  1. I'm getting there. Still behind a little, but by about the same amount. I was getting really close to being caught up (YAY!), but then the past couple days I've slowed down some. For a while there I was keeping the chapters on my mp3 player, and listening while I read. Then my player started acting wonky and I haven't done it in a while. Not trying to make it sound like an excuse - just saying I need to get with it again. :O)

That aside, I totally agree with you about learning more from reading more at a time. I amazes me how much more I'm comprehending that I haven't put together before.

Don't know about you, but I'm finding it's easier to keep control of myself in general (a biggie for me is my temper) when I've spent an hour in the Word that morning. It's been interesting to watch.

Our preacher asked tonight how many of us are actually praying daily, "Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit." I sat there thinking of that in terms of this challenge....and the changes He is making in me through it. Definitely thought provoking..........
